Egyptian culture has six thousand years of recorded history. Ancient Egypt was among the earliest civilizations and for millennia, Egypt maintained a strikingly complex and stable culture that influenced later cultures of Europe, the Middle East and other African countries. After the Pharaonic era, Egypt itself came under the influence of Hellenism, Christianity, and Islamic culture. Today, many aspects of Egypt's ancient culture exist in interaction with newer elements, including the influence of modern Western culture, itself with roots in ancient Egypt.

Egypt's capital city, Cairo, is Africa's largest city and has been renowned for centuries as a center of learning, culture and commerce. Egypt has the highest number of Nobel Laureates in Africa and the Arab World. Some Egyptian born politicians were or are at the helm of major international organizations like Boutros Boutros-Ghali of the United Nations and Mohamed ElBaradei of the IAEA.

Egypt is a recognized cultural trend-setter of the Arabic-speaking world, and contemporary Arab culture is heavily influenced by Egyptian literature, music, film and television. Egypt gained a regional leadership role during the 1950s and 1960s, which gave a further enduring boost to the standing of Egyptian culture in the Arab world.

Real Style, for Real Girls

This company specializes in sizes 12 through 26. Torrid is in business to create self-esteem for the diva-licious, and they rock it! At Torrid, you can give your tween or teen the go-ahead to buy her own clothes. She'll be in style no matter what she chooses. Their sales people are trained to help fit different body types. They know how to let a girl feel happy in her own skin.

We went shopping at Torrid today. I buy a lot of their cropped pants, hitting just under the knee, from playful cargos to straight-up pinstripes. The length is hugely popular this season, but Torrid has been selling it for some time--comfy, good-looking, and great for active women. Torrid's cropped pants are, for us, what board shorts are for guys.

Right now, Torrid has in stock a darling black crocheted shrug trimmed in antiqued bronze paillettes--in lock-step with au courant fashion but also timeless, a piece to help build a working wardrobe.

Summer skirts are in, minis anywhere from 12 inches to 20 or so in length, from a white, triple-tiered, cha-cha ruffled number, to sweet red roses on a black field, to a classic black with white embroidery trailing all over (all could be worn with the above-mentioned shrug, nice how different pieces in the collection can work together). Lots of cargo minis for play or a quick cover-up over a bathing suit, maybe to go for a bite on the boardwalk after the beach?

My teens were able to find semi-formal knee-length dresses for about $50. Refreshing to find short dresses not so short they show that fatty pouch at the back of the knee--most short formal dresses for girls are ballet-syle right now, as short as tutus! Torrid's formal short dresses help a girl feel confident knowing she doesn't need to pull it down in back every time she gets up, or after every dance. The right length can make a more successful evening.
