CBJ-TBL Trade Empty may come across as questionable but

I really need to know why Tampa is giving up a franchise player and not getting anything of franchise value back.

I can't speak for him but to me, two 1st round picks and 2 top-6 forwards is a pretty damn good return.

Ashton replaces one of those firsts.
Stamkos is 19, and among league leaders in points.
He's a franchise guy.

So two top six forwards, one on the wrong side of 30 , the other 27, 1 1st round pick is enough for Stamkos?

Don't forget about Hansen, a prospect rated exactly the same as one you were praising in another thread.

Yeah, becuase Hockeys Future is a stellar site to rely on. The only thing good about HF is its boards.

Try typing in Kugryshev into google and google news and see what you come back with. See what people that see him every day say, then type in Jake Hansen and see.
And since you want to quote Hockeys future: 6.0C and 6.5C are also filler grades. Thats the reason Bozak was rated 6.0C last year, and why Kulemin and Stefanovich was 6.5C.

I doubt Mike MIlbury would've traded Stamkos for the package you gave.

Isn't Modin dead?

Kind of have to agree with Shawn on this. Stamkos is or will be an elite player... he's showing it now. Modin is wayyyyy past his prime and mighty expensive. Vermette is on and off hot and cold but a nice piece... I don't know why Bob made this trade, but I can't say it;s a good one regardless of the 2 firsts coming back.

I simply believe Stamkos is worth more.

For the record, those QMJHL rookie achievements mean next to nothing since he was an 18 year old rookie. The difference between 16,17 & 18 year olds in junior hockey is huge.

Milbury would have traded him for Kirill Starkov and a 3rd round pick.
If you’re comparing Kugryshev to Kulemin and Stefanovic then you definitely didn’t get enough for Kaberle. Those are two players that are badly overrated by Leaf fans.

Stamkos is a great talent you’re right, but a 60+ point guy (Vermette’s pace since leaving Ottawa) who adds a ton defensively as well, another sim-league top-6 winger and 2 firsts seems like a very decent price.

But there's the thing, Vermette hasn't scored 60 points once in his career! He may score 60 points but that's his ceiling. Stamkos, can you put a number on his ceiling? You keep calling Modin a top 6 forward, but he isn't a top six forward. He's 35 years old, hasn't played this season is coming off a season of 25 points. Nash, Huselius, Umberger, Voracek, Williams, Vermette, Brassard.....thats 7 forwards ahead of him on the depth chart last season, and this season would he play ahead of Nash, Voracek, Vermette, Brassard, Umberger, Hussellius, Chimera and Torres?

As for 18 year old QMJHL ROY......
Michael Frolik
Born Feb 17, 1988
2006-07 Rimouski Oceanic QMJHL 52 31 42 73 40 -- -- -- -- --
2007-08 Rimouski Oceanic QMJHL 45 24 41 65 22 9 2 4 6 12
Guess that 2006/2007 season should be ignored since he was 18 right?

And lets not forget I also got back Carlson, who was the key piece in the deal.

John Carlson D 15 1 8 9 0 8 1990-01-10 19 Natick, MA 6.03
Karl Alzner D 15 0 2 2 4 9 1988-09-24 20 Burnaby, BC 6.02
More or less a guy who stacks up with a top 10 pick in 07.

"Sim league top-6"

This is a Sim league.

You can't say 60 points is his ceiling, since his pace since joining the Jackets is higher then 60 points per 82 games.

"Guess that 2006/2007 season should be ignored since he was 18 right? "

I didn't say anything about ignoring a rookie season. (I don't know where you're getting that from). It's a good season, just like the one Kugryshev had last season, but ROY in those seasons means nothing since the vast majority of the other rookies were a year or two younger. Compared to the other players that age, it is not much more then a decent season for Kugryshev.

I realize you got the two prospects. I just think you could have got more (I know I would have offered more), the exact same way you think Tampa could have got more in a Stamkos deal.
There is never going to be a trade made where every person in the league believes it is a tie.

I could play the projected scoring game too Mr. Sutton.
Stamkos is on Pace for: 82 65 27 92 +4
Thats 65 GOALS, and 90 points, from a 19 year old.

challenge this trade, 1st rnd picks are terribly over valued and these picks will be high. there is nothing of high value coming back for a player like stamkos and i think this is a terrible trade

This deal has been sent to the Trade Council due to the above reason given by Lawrence.

Regardless of TB's attempt to pull out, the TC has decided to reject this trade by a 2-0 vote by myself and C.Bridges. Both of us feel that more could have been given to acquire Stamkos and while the two firsts are a start, the acquisition of Modin and Vermette plus the picks doesn't equal to what Stamkos brings to the table. While he may not score 65 goals this season, it is clear he is the new Franchise player in Tampa Bay and should be treated as such by both GM's.

CBJ has 48 hours in which they alone can continue to work out a deal for Stamkos... though let it be known that doesn't mean TB has to trade him. After that 48 hour period Tampa can shop Stamkos again.

Any concerns can be brought to me.
